The law of Karma – Summary of Divine Discourse on 4 August 2016
Language, sounds, words and sentences may be different but the underlying thought is one and the same. Similarly, the truth is one and the same. There is only one Truth but it is spoken by different people in different ways. Whether you call it water or Jala or Vari or Neeru or Neellu, all of these words refer to the same object. Therefore, though the same truth can be spoken in many languages and in many ways, truth does not change.
There is a great law of Truth that governs this entire universe. The one who understands and abides by this law shall never face sorrow. A great scientist, Newton, explained it as the law of action and reaction. The same law applies not just to the physical world made of matter but also to the world that is beyond perception of matter or physics. As the seed is sown, so shall be the crop that we reap. The result of all good is always good and the result of all bad is always bad. You are responsible for your joys and sorrows, though it may appear to you that your sorrow is a result of circumstances or people around you. You will only be fooling yourself by thinking this way. All actions we undertake on this earth, which is the Karma Bhumi or land of actions, remain; they do not disappear.
Thus, morning and night endeavor to keep doing good deeds. Remember what is real and what is unreal. Remembering what is good and what is not and undertaking only good deeds is the way to lead a happy life on this earth. Firstly, you must believe that there is such a law that governs this whole universe. No one can withstand this law of Karma, it is inescapable. Whoever you might be, however big, powerful or well known you might be, you cannot escape the law of Karma. Either today or tomorrow, it will track you, trace you, and will find you without fail. If you do good, the result of the good must also come to you; this also cannot be escaped.
Keep doing good deeds. All good actions are born out of good thoughts. It is thoughts, which convert into words and it is words that finally show up as actions. But to have good thoughts, one needs good company. Keeping good company will help you to keep good thoughts, words and deeds and thereby you will be able to always enjoy good results of your actions. Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a tendency; sow a tendency, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny. Therefore, if you want a good destiny, good future, good results, then have good thoughts in the first place. Good thoughts will come in good company. Therefore, always keep good company. Through good company, you learn to be with your true self that will enable you to develop a sense of detachment from all that is bad. From this detachment, comes Realisation. That is what is liberation or the end goal of all our lives. Therefore, the ABC of life is – always Avoid Bad Company.
