What is the core teaching in Sai institutions? – Divine Discourse Summary – Sri Sathya Sai Prasanthiniketanam, Nallakadirenahalli – August 17, 2017
The essence of this nationhood, of the culture of Bharat, we can understand from the three letters Bha-ra-ta. Those who revel in the joy of God are the Bharatiyas or Indians. If somebody asks you, “What is the soul and essence of Indian culture?” I can say it is devotion to God. Today if you find India safe and sound, the root cause is that since ancient times till today people had great devotion to God and have reveled in spiritual joy. But in modern times, adherence to our culture is decreasing. “Why are we starting these educational institutions?” It is for revival of Indian culture and to teach devotion to children. Without good conduct and good wisdom, education cannot be true education. It is the Dharma of our institutions to impart education pertaining to the earning of livelihood and how to reach the ultimate goal of life. Since humanity has today forgotten and lost devotion and love for God, there is no fear of sin, there is no morality in society.
First and foremost, it is our duty to teach devotion to our children, we should never ever forget this. The seed of devotion has in itself the strength and intelligence which is required for leading life and finally the knowledge to reach the ultimate goal of liberation. If you sow the seed of devotion in the heart which is filled with love, it will grow up into a big tree and will grant everything – strength, intelligence and liberation finally. The real education that we impart and learn in these institutions is devotion. And if you have devotion you will automatically get intelligence. If we learn the art of devotion, our character will be absolutely strong and steady. When you have a stable character, your mind will be steady. When you have a steady mind, easily you can develop concentration on anything. When you have devotion, you also develop very good feelings. Those feelings make our mind stable. If you want to develop concentration of mind, purity of mind is required. If you want to develop purity, devotion is required. When you attain purity, automatically you will get Divinity also.
Always keep smiling. A spiritual person should always be smiling. No castor oil faces for spiritual persons. Only worldly people have castor oil faces. Whether it is difficulty or good times, there is always Samatvam. They are always equanimeous. Therefore, they never have any worry, they never cry, they never make long faces.
