Let me pick up the thread from where I left it last time. Swami’s mission continues through His subtle form now. And how privileged are we that He has chosen Muddenahalli as His playground to enact His divine leela?
But first, a little walk down the memory lane. Swami has visited Muddenahalli many times – 29 times to be precise. In fact, Muddenahalli was built by Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, brick by brick. All those who have worked here and been a part of its evolution have found fulfilment in their lives. Some time back, during the Diwali festival celebrations, when Swami was going by car to the place we had the fireworks display, He remarked, “Dayyaaldinam ayinadi devaadinam aayi poyindi.” It means what was known as the hillock of the devils has now became the hillock of the Divine.
When Swami would visit the campus physically, he used to come in the morning or forenoon and leave in the evening. He never stayed here overnight. In 1979, when I was serving Swami in Muddenahalli, during one of His visits, I prayed to Him, “Swami should stay here at least for a night.” Looking at me resolutely, Swami gave a very cryptic reply. He said, “I will come here on a Pournami day (full moon day) and stay.” I never fully understood the import of that statement, and during His physical presence that day never came to be. But, as promised, even though many years later, He came here (Muddenahalli) on the Gurupoornima day in His subtle body! Mysterious are His ways, and for commoners like us, it’s difficult to fathom the depth of His words.
Yet another interesting episode comes to my mind. After completing the seventh volume of Sathyam Shivam Sundaram, Swami had asked me to write the second part of my experiences with Swami – the sequel for my book “Sri Sathya Sai Divya Kripashraya”. The book described my experiences with Swami during the first 18 years of my association with Him, from 1965 to 1983. And my recent book, “Sathya Sai Divya Sannidhi” dwells on my experiences with Swami from 1983 to 2011, which completes my association with His physical form.
Later, Swami told me to focus my energies on writing the third part – about what He was accomplishing through the subtle body. He titled the book Sathya Sai Divya Anandam. While we all know that Swami is omnipresent, at some point, we have all wondered what the subtle body really meant.
Let me share what Swami has told me about the subtle body during His many interactions with me in the past years. Swami said that He had four forms – the Gross Form (Sthoola Shareera), the Subtle Form (Sookshma Shareera), the Higher Subtle Form (Ati – Sookshma Shareera) and His all-pervasive Omnipresent Form (Para Sookshma Shareera). Swami explained that in His Para Sookshma Shareera or the super subtle form, He pervades the entire universe – not just on a speck of dust, or the entire earth on which we live but encompassing all galaxies, all stars and all planets. In the Para Sookshma Shareera, He is the Prajna Swaroopa – He is in the form of just consciousness, and no individualisation. Individualisation starts with Ati Sookshma Shareera, the Higher Subtle form, in which He appears to us in our dreams and meditations to guide us. Sookshma Shareera, or the Subtle Body, comprises of thoughts, mind, intellect and its associations, minus the physical body. In His subtle body, Swami explained that He could go from one corner of the universe to another within a moment. And He has been doing it! His visits to the USA, Canada, England, Singapore, and Dubai and so on are a proof of this.
So, how do we put these pieces together? On one hand, Sri Krishna has said, “Those who understand the inner significance of My descent shall be liberated.” While on the other, Sai Krishna has said, “Don’t attempt to understand Me. Experience Me and be blissful”.
What exactly should we do then? Thankfully, our dear Lord Sai Krishna has given a way out of this spiritual conundrum too. The answer lies in the simple annotation that He has often reiterated – If you experience Me, you would be liberated.
Isn’t it His divine will that time and again He keeps giving us that experience of His sweet and nectarine divine self?
Sri. B N Narasimha Murthy, fondly called as Murthy Anna, has been one among those blessed with the fortune of serving Bhagawan and His mission for many years. He hails from Loka Seva Vrinda, an order of committed youngsters founded by Sri Madiyal Narayana Bhatt, an eminent educationist of Karnataka in India. The Loka Seva Vrinda established two schools at Alike and Muddenahalli in the 1960s, both of which were run under the direct guidance of Bhagawan Baba.
Sri Narasimha Murthy was chosen by Bhagawan to serve as the Warden of Sathya Sai Hostel in Brindavan Campus of the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, Whitefield, near Bangalore in India. In his four-decade service stint as Warden, he moulded many thousands of students on to the path of educare, while nurturing their character. Bhagawan also gave him the rare opportunity to continue "Sathyam Sivam Sundaram", His official biography, which was earlier authored by Prof. N Kasthuri. Sri Murthy has also authored the book "Sri Sathya Sai Divya Kripashraya”, an autobiographical account of his formative years and the development of Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva institutions.
He continues to play a seminal role in Baba’s mission, and currently serves as the Chief Mentor of the Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Institutions.
These articles are based on his various speeches made in the Divine presence.
The most beautiful things in the universe can neither be seen nor touched. They can only be felt in the heart. If we think about it – all we need to do it open our hearts, have open-mindedness and humility, and anyone and everyone can feel Swami’s presence today in the subtle body. His love flows like the Ganges even today.

Reams have been written about Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. I have also written few volumes of His biography. But even today, if someone asked me what do you know about Sri Sathya Sai Baba and my reply would be nothing! I know Him only as love and compassion and nothing beyond.
