Guru Poornima 2015
The Guru Purnima 2015 celebrations commenced on Thursday evening with Bhagawan’s divine discourse at the Sri Sathya Sai Hridaya Mandiram, at Muddenahalli. Swami commenced his nectarine message by saying, “I am not the mind. I am neither the subconscious mind. I am not the intelligence or the intellect. I am also not the ego. I am not the five elements – earth, water, air, fire or space. I am not any of these things. But I am the very embodiment of Shiva.” Bhagawan went on to explain the significance of Guru Purnima and said that on Guru Purnima, one has to understand the inner significance of this festival and practice it. Since the mind is responsible for bondage and liberation, Swami stressed that one has to put the mind towards the Atma, which will then shine with brilliance. When the body consciousness comes between the Atma and mind, it is darkness. Only when we put His teachings into practice, it is truly Guru Purnima.
Bhagawan’s discourse was followed by a scintillating dance performance by Dr. Roshni Pillay Keshavan. Dr. Roshni is a medical doctor by profession and an accomplished dancer from Singapore. She performed three dance items – the first two dedicated to Lord Shiva, and the last offering to her Divine Master was the Gita Upadesha.
On the auspicious morning of Guru Purnima, Bhagawan was received at the Sri Sathya Sai Hridaya Mandiram with the ceremonial Purna Kumbham and Veda chanting. The proceedings of the morning commenced with the symbolic Bhoomi Puja for the Sri Sathya Sai Sarla Memorial Hospital, by the unveiling of a plaque in the midst of the grand sire of the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation Sri Indulal Shah and other elders from the Alike and Muddenahalli institutions. Dr. Sudhakar, MLA Chikkaballapur District was the chief guest for the morning and assured all his support for the project.
The grand announcement of the day was a water project for the districts of Chikkaballapur and Kolar by Bhagawan. He declared that the project will be complete within eight months, and this would give a lot of respite to the people of both the districts.
Sri Indulal Shah, along with his daughter Darshana and son-in-law Sri Atul Patel, made a soulful offering of his villa, ‘Sai Darshan’ in Mumbai at the Lotus Feet of Bhagawan. He also offered Rupees One Crore towards the construction of the hospital, being built in loving memory of his devout wife, late Smt Sarla Shah. It was an emotional moment for the family and all present, when Sri Atul read out a letter written by Sri Indulal Shah to Bhagawan and the august gathering.
Swami started his discourse by underlining the importance of sense control and mind control in a beautiful couplet. Attributing the cause of all sufferings, wars, tragedies to man’s selfishness and self-interest, Swami said God had come down to earth to teach man the higher truths. Swami explained at length the aspect of Maya. The explained the two types of Maya, Vidya Maya and Avidya Maya, and how only through devotion to God can one get rid of the illusion. God is constant as the object while Maya is ever changing like the shadow.
Swami very fondly spoke of Sri Indulal Shah at length. He recollected how Sri Indulal Shah had come to Swami when he was 45 years old and had spent the past 50 years in dedicatedly serving Swami. Swami attributed Sri Indulal Shah with being instrumental in building the Sri Sathya Sai Organisation to its present level. Swami said only divine consciousness could do this.
Swami announced the formation of the Veda Vrinda, extolling the importance of vedas and commanded the group to propagate the vedas in the whole world. He ended the discourse by saying his students were his strength and invoked them to take an active part in his mission.
