Swami spoke to the students thereafter, and very emphatically stated that the goal of the Sathya Sai education system was to develop students of character. He said that just like rain drops which come down from the sky are pure, colorless and odorless but once they fall on the ground they acquire the properties of the soil that they get mingled with. Similarly, when students are born, they are pure, with pure minds. But with the company that they keep, their mind gets polluted and contaminated. Therefore, keeping good company is extremely important for one’s spiritual and overall growth. “The first thing our Institution provides to all the students, is a good environment to enable them grow well in a good atmosphere, in the company of good teachers and good people, which helps them to retain the purity and grow into people of character.”

Swami spoke to the students about the importance of our education system, about the good habits that one must develop, about keeping good company, and keeping one’s thoughts words and actions pure. He said children of that age are malleable and can be moulded into any shape, as the teachers decide. Therefore, it is important for teachers to do their duty well by practicing what they are teaching only then the children would follow. He urged teachers to develop love for the students of divine kind, ‘Love without Duty’ as its not enough if they just did their duty with love. He spoke to many students and asked them about their background, about their towns from which they hailed and about the various things they were doing.

Swami said everyone born comes with a expiry date. What matters is what one does between birth and death. “Human birth is the consummation of perfection in God’s creation. Only when one attains one’s divinity, does the human birth find fulfillment. By serving others one is serving God. By loving others can one love God. Before loving others, one should love oneself. Just as a sculptor chips away that which is not the idol, one should remove what is not Divine from within. Mind is the basis of all life; a pure mind without attachment and ego turns Godwards. Human birth is the rarest of the rare opportunities.”

Only with the knowledge of the Self, can one achieve redemption. What is the use of investing in something that is temporary like body, relationships, wealth and worldly acquisitions? Only God who is permanent can give permanent happiness. And only a Guru can guide one through this path. Satsang (the company of the good) is the first step in this part. It is like keeping a pot of water inside a larger pot of water. The water will not evaporate

One morning while serving breakfast, Brother Sumeet’s daughter asked Swami, “Why did God create the earth?” Swami simply replied, “It is just like how your father built the home for you all to stay together and live happily. Likewise, God created this earth as a home for all His children, from insects to birds to beasts and humans. He created rivers and oceans for the fishes, He created the sky for the birds, He created terrain for animals and men, so that all can live as a happy family.” The little girl was quick to ask another question, “So are there other earths where people live?” Swami replied by pointing to the other houses seen around from the balcony, “Oh yes! Just as there are many houses around, there are many worlds where beings live. Either they have to visit you or you will have to visit them like neighbours do and you can know them!”

“There isn’t a more momentous and sacred occasion than the day a person turns his/her vision Godward.” He gave the analogy of dust, which in the company of wind rises higher and higher, while the same dust in the company of water sinks lower and lower. The best company is the company of those who have realised God. He spoke of the glorious times that ahead in the future. Swami said, much will be done by the Fiji team before receiving the next avatar of Prem Sai. He encouraged all to have more satsangs, which was the way to ensure a pure and clear mind. “Like a sailor with a compass to guide him, one should have our minds always turned towards God”, the Lord said.

“Just like this elevator, God too comes down to take people up to higher levels. However, there is limited space inside the lift and those who are early, benefit from it. Others have to wait for the lift to come down again. This is the way of the incarnations too! Many miss the opportunity, for they are not ready to board even when the opportunity knocks, and have to wait for another opportunity to be with the Avatar!”

“Loves lives by giving and forgiving. In love there is nothing calling giving and expecting something in return. Love knows only to give. Even if others behave with different feelings and attitudes, we have to behave in only one way. Man’s nature is to love those who love, while to love all is divine quality. Love has this wisdom, unless one has this wisdom one cannot experience this selfless love.” Swami urged all to develop this kind of love and make it the foundation of their lives

How should we worship Lord Ganesha? – Summary of Divine Discourse on 06 September 2016

Man leads his life for the sake of the body and based on the faith that the body is permanent. Don’t be proud of the strength of your body or your youth or the people support that you enjoy. One moment can take away all these things from you. Only by understanding the truth that all this creation is illusory, will you enjoy the divine experience of the Lord. The festival of Ganesha and the adoration of Ganesha ultimately demonstrates this truth to us.
