God is one; the only one. In the word ‘Bharata’ there are three letters; ‘Bha’, ‘Ra’ and ‘Ta’. ‘Bha’ means ‘Bhagavantha’ or God, ‘Ratha’ is one who revels in the joy of God, one who loves God and derives bliss and joy therein. Those who love God, and derive joy and bliss from God are the Bharatheeyas or Indians. There is only one Truth – scholars, men of wisdom call it by different names. You may worship God in many names and forms but the Divine principle is one and the same. The various religions are like various schools but the syllabus, knowledge or the Truth that is taught in all these schools is one and the same.
Religions are many but there is only one Truth, which is taught by all of them. There is only one atma, which pervades every creature. Only when we realise the unity of all creation, forgetting and getting rid of the feeling of multiplicity and diversity, can we really enjoy true divine bliss. An ignorant person sees multiplicity in unity but the wise people who have realised the Truth, see unity in multiplicity and diversity. When we develop this sense of unity, when we realise the experience of unity, all attachments and sorrows will fall away from us. Where there is unity, there is purity. Where there is purity, there is divinity. Only when we realise the unity of all creation, we experience this sacredness, holiness and purity. When you attain purity, you attain divinity also.
Bodies are many but divinity is one and the same. Only when we recognise this truth, we can practise true love. The essence and the fundamental basis of all religions is only love. Based on this, Kabirdas had said, “Even after having read many scriptures and the Vedas, we are not able to know the Truth. If you can understand and practice this two-and-a-half lettered word prema then it has the essence of all divinity.” There is no divinity, God or dharma higher than love.
Therefore, there is only one religion – the religion of love. There is only one caste – the caste of humanity. There is only one language – the language of heart. There is only one God – He is omnipresent. There is only one divinity, which pervades everyone. Through all of the noble and great people who have come here we are going to listen to the truth. We need to contemplate on the truth, and also practise it in our lives.
