In our ancient Indian culture, there were no auditoriums, there were no Sabha mantapams, there were no such concert halls. All that they had was a temple. Be it dance, be it music, be it poetry, be it Veda pathana, be it Yajna yagas, even marriages, all ceremonies, everything was done in the temple. Who is the Lord of that Sabha? God Himself. That is why He is called Sabhapati. So that was the idea of Indian culture that Lord Himself should preside over all that we do. That is our Indian culture where everything we did only for God’s sake, in God’s presence, for God. You dance? To entertain God. You sing to entertain God. Whatever you do, you orient your thoughts towards God. That is the idea of Divinity.
These temples and the deity within has this Ayaskantam, magnetism of Divinity. Immediately we also start acquiring that orientation, that focus, that concentration, that one-pointedness which makes us Divine. All our scattered thoughts – ‘I am this, I am that’ – are all destroyed. All these negative feelings is not me. We got oriented towards God. No anger, no greed, no hatred, no jealousy, no lust, no frustrations. Everything is Divinity. I am not all these things. What I am? Chidananda rupah Shivoham. Again, we are getting oriented. Again, the iron pieces are getting oriented towards the Divine magnetism of the presence of God. That is the beauty of our culture. And what do we learn in the presence of the Divine? Chidananda rupa. I and you are one and the same. We are the same. If you continue to do what you are doing by praying, by singing, by focusing on God all day, all night, in all your activities, there is no doubt that one day you will only become the magnet, you will only become Divine, you will only become God.
What is God? Chit ananda. The awareness of this principle that inside, outside Antar bahischa tat sarvam vyapya Narayana stithaha. Isa vasya idam sarvam yat kinchya jagatyam jagat. Ishvara sarva bhutanam ishvara sarva vidyanam. These are the truths that will reveal themselves to you. Once those truth reveal to you, you will always be in bliss, you will always be happy, there never will be sorrow for you. So, whatever you do, offer it to God, do it for God’s sake. Don’t do it for your own sake. You will do the best when you do for God. Keep all your thoughts, words and deeds focused on God and God alone. And what is God? Is pure awareness and bliss that comes therefrom which is your duty, your right also. You are also having a right to that awareness, that bliss. So, don’t short change yourself for paltry, temporary pleasures. Rather crave for that eternal permanent bliss. That should be our way of life.
