Beacon of Love
by Sri B N Narasimha Murthy
‘Love is a sacred mystery’ stated Khalil Gibran, the famous poet. Robert Schuller, the American author had said, “Miracles happen in the presence of love”. It couldn’t be truer in all our lives!
Dear brothers and sisters, we are possibly the most fortunate witnesses to the unparalleled, matchless, supreme miracle of Swami. Out of His love and compassion, He had made many promises to many devotees. To the many devotees who came to His lotus feet and offered themselves, He assured them saying, “I’m always with you. I will look after you”. To many of them who came and settled down in Prashanthi Nilayam or Whitefield, I have myself heard Swami promising them, “I will be with you till the end of your life and I will guide you even after death.” He had made similar promises to many devotees not only in India but in many countries. “I will visit your home,” He had assured to so many. It is nothing but love and compassion which made Him continue in the subtle body. This is the most wonderful miracle of Bhagawan.
Even if you look at the life of Jesus Christ, the Bible states that His greatest miracle was after He shed His mortal coil. It is said in the Bible that He came back after three days and it is referred to as the most glorious episode of resurrection. Imagine if there was no resurrection! Imagine what would have happened had Jesus died on the cross and people didn’t hear anything of Him after that? Today, I would not have been talking of Jesus Christ. Why would I say that? When He was being crucified on the hillock Golgotha, almost every one of His disciples had run away to save themselves. Even His prime disciple Peter denied Him thrice. Only the three Marys – Mary the Mother, Mary the Sister of Lazarus, who was resurrected after death by Jesus Christ and Mary of Magdalena were waiting for their Lord. And then there was the dearest disciple, youngest of them, John. What made the disciples come back to the same city and fearlessly teach about their master was because of resurrection.
In fact, there is a beautiful dialogue between the Chief Priest of the Jews of the temple, Caiaphas and one of his elderly relatives, Annas. Three days after Jesus was crucified, the rumours started floating around that He had come back, that the three ladies had seen Him come back out of the tomb, and later on He had appeared to His dear disciples. These stories were doing the round. And Caiaphas, the Chief Priest of the temple, who was responsible for the crucifixion of Jesus Christ did not believe in it. Or he did not want to believe in it even if it was true. The simple reason was, it would have been the end of his machinations to crucify Jesus. Therefore, Caiaphas assembled many of his priests in his temple. Among them was this elderly relative, Annas. And he said, “All these are rumours. It is the disciples who have stolen the body of Jesus Christ and spreading the rumours that He has come back”. And all the priests agreed with him “Yes, that’s true”. But only the elderly person, Annas was silent. In fact, it was Annas who had supported Caiaphas in the episode, which lead to the crucifixion of Jesus.
Caiaphas asks Annas “Why are you keeping silent?” He replied, “Though I don’t want to tell you the truth, my heart says that Jesus has come back”. And Caiaphas was stunned with his reply and asked him “What made you say this?” He replies, “All the disciples of Jesus had deserted Him and run away. They were virtually very cowardly men. They were cowards. They wanted to save themselves when their Master was being crucified. They ran away. What makes them come back with so much courage in the same city even at the risk of their lives today? How are they able to come back and teach people about the life and the teachings of Jesus Christ? If Jesus had not come back, this would not have happened. The courage to come out in the open to again propagate the message of their master is this resurrection.”
Similarly, today we find that Swami, from morning till evening, has been doing the same thing. He calls people for interviews, His trusted people on whom He showers so much of love and what does He tell them? “I have promised you that I will look after you. I will continue to look after you. Don’t worry. Happy times are coming again. I’ll come back in another physical body. You will see the glory of Sai more and more”. What makes Him say this? It is nothing but love and compassion.
This is the story of every great avatar, be it Jesus Christ or Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, who is performing the supreme miracle of love again and again and again.
Helen Keller has explained the concept beautifully. She said that the most beautiful things in the universe can neither be seen nor touched. They can only be felt in the heart.
If we think about it – all we need to do it open our hearts, have open-mindedness and humility, and anyone and everyone can feel Swami’s presence today in the subtle body. His love flows like the Ganges even today. Think about it. The most wonderful miracles are happening as we speak. Within years after Him shedding the mortal coil, fourteen new educational campuses and a super specialty hospital have come up, things are happening at such a pace. And this is just the beginning!
It is a manifestation of nothing but His pure love for each one of us!
