Sri Sathya Sai Vrindawith Love, at His service

Banaswadi Breakfast Seva report

The government school at Banaswadi has 300 children across the standards 1st to 8th. Many of them come from families where nutrition is a concern. The school currently depends on mid-day meals provided by ISKCON but the children do not have access to a nutritious breakfast, which is important to get them off to a healthy start. A team of Sai Volunteers visited the school, inspired by the breakfast seva activities in other parts of the city, and decided that they would provide some form of nutrition to the 270 odd children at this school.

By the immense Grace of Bhagawan and under His direct guidance, the breakfast seva activity was started for these children on the 21st of September. The students are served Sai Protein (the recipe for which was given by Bhagawan himself) which is a composite health drink made of many nutritious ingredients such as millets and dry fruits and a complete breakfast meal in itself. They receive this healthy, filling drink three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, along with biscuits.

The Sai Volunteers took the activity forward by organizing a Swatch Bharat Drive on Gandhi Jayanti as part of which they joined hands with the students to clean up the premises and surroundings of the school. To make the drive interesting and complete, the volunteers also included a story session where one of the Bal Vikas gurus narrated stories based on Gandhiji’s life, underlining the need for discipline and sincerity.

The headmaster of the school and the teachers are touched and overwhelmed by this seva activity – they wanted to hear more about Bhagawan and his work. The headmaster also invited the volunteer team to be part of an assembly session, where he thanked them for ensuring that the children got off to a good start every morning. The students are keen to help and greet the volunteers with a cheerful “Sairam” every morning.
